Louisiana detectives were in town this week to investigate the deaths of two Gainesville men whose bodies were found dumped off an interstate north of New Orleans last week.

Felipe Alonzo Maximo, 26, and Miguel Angel Ayala, 30, poultry workers who lived in apartments on Atlanta Highway and McEver Road, died as a result of gunshot wounds, Hall County Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Strickland said. Their bodies were found on Dec. 12, dumped about four miles apart on the side of Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish, Strickland said.

No arrests have been made in the case.

St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s investigators spent the last three days in Gainesville interviewing people who knew the two men, Strickland said.

Authorities also are looking to identify a woman who was seen in surveillance footage with one of the men a day before their bodies were found. She is described as a Hispanic female, 5 feet 4 inches tall, with a medium build and shoulder-length dark hair.

"They’re trying to identify her as a person of interest," Strickland said.

Strickland referred additional questions about the slayings, including possible motives, to St. Tammany Parish authorities, who were not immediately available for comment.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hall County Sheriff’s Office at 770-536-8812 or the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-898-2354.
