Two men who thought they were buying 20 pounds of marijuana instead ended up in jail Thursday, officials said Friday.

Heriberto Garcia, 22, of Conley and Adrian Rodriguez of Jonesboro were arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana during an undercover sting in the 800 block of West Ridge Road on Thursday, Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad commander Scott Ware said.

Ware said the men had arrived at the location to try to buy 20 pounds of marijuana. Undercover officers had earlier negotiated a price of $12,000 while communicating with Rodriguez by phone, Ware said.

During the arrests, Garcia tried to run but was quickly captured, Ware said. He had $4,229 in cash on him. A loaded 9 mm handgun was found under the seat of Garcia’s car.

Both men remain in the Hall County jail.
