The Medical Center Auxiliary honors volunteers

The Medical Center Auxiliary Inc. honored three long-time volunteers at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner Wednesday.

Tom and Lou Hanson were named the 2008 Marjorie Covington Smith Auxilians of the Year, and Margaret Ellett was honored with the Nell W. Wiegand Patient Friend Award.

Tom and Lou Hanson began volunteering in 2000. Over the course of eight years, this volunteer couple has shown their dedication in a multitude of ways, giving 4,000 hours of service.

Margaret Ellett began volunteering at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in 1951 with the Pilot Club. Throughout the past 20 years, she has given more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service to Hospice of NGMC, which provides end of life care to terminally ill patients in their homes.
