The Gainesville City Council is scheduled to vote for a second time at its meeting this evening on a proposed ordinance that would require pawnbrokers to maintain an electronic database that could make it easier for law enforcement officials to recover stolen property sold to pawnshops. The council members approved a first reading of the ordinance at their Nov. 6 meeting. The ordinance specifies regulations over the local industry, including electronic tracking of purchases and sellers.
