WomenSource celebrated in style at the third annual Power of the Purse fundraiser Tuesday at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center.

The sold-out event featured local vendors selling clothes, handbags, makeup and accessories and dinner catered by Scott's on the Square.

Women from the community transformed the Quinlan into a catwalk, modeling outfits from area shops.

There were also 13 designer handbags for raffle as well as a silent auction for a handbag local artist GeorgeAnn Moore designed especially for the event.

"It's been a great two years, and we thank you for believing in our mission," said WomenSource Chair-Elect LeTrell Simpson. "If we've accomplished all this in two years, I can't imagine what we're going to be talking about two years from now, but I'm excited about it."

The group was formed in June 2008 as a nonprofit resource for women in the community.

Simpson said the organization has achieved a lot in its two years.

Since its inception, WomenSource's main programming effort has been the Brown Bag Lunch Series. The monthly lunch programs feature speakers on topics ranging from the stock market to raising children to legal issues facing women.

The events draw around 125 women from the community each month.

The group also organized a screening of the movie "Iron Jawed Angels" at Brenau University and a seminar about caring for your car at Milton Martin Honda.

"We really believe in partnerships," Simpson said of the various events they have held and those planned in the future. "We're trying to cover the spectrum."

The organization was formed through a collaboration of the United Way of Hall County, The Junior League of Gainesville-Hall County and the North Georgia Community Foundation.

"I am absolutely thrilled to see this organization grow and bloom and do as well as it has," said United Way president Jackie Wallace.

The dining area was so packed that the board of directors offered up their seats to sell more tickets.

"I'm just excited to see this turnout," said WomenSource Board Chair Deborah Mack. "(Power of the Purse) has the right title - because this is where it is tonight."
