A toddler remained in the hospital Saturday with a head injury after a Friday afternoon car accident in South Hall County.

The Georgia State Patrol said Saturday that Aaliyah Penaloza, 18 months, remains in Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite after being flown there following the wreck. The hospital would not confirm her condition.

Her mother Jane Penaloza, 22, from Flowery Branch, remains at Northeast Georgia Medical Center though her condition was not immediately known.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Sgt. G.R. Harper, who worked the scene, said Penaloza crossed the center line in a blue Nissan, hitting a white Toyota Highlander head-on on Poplar Springs east of Weaver Road.

The Toyota driver, Doris Elizabeth Martin, 63, of Talmo, was also taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center but was released from the emergency room.

The investigation is still ongoing; Harper will consider whether or not to file charges once it’s complete.
