Police responded to a dispute and shooting late Friday night at Park Crossing Apartments in Gainseville. A woman in another apartment, who was not involved in the dispute, was wounded by the bullet the suspect fired. The suspect is in custody.

A Gainesville man is in custody following a shooting late Friday night at the Park Crossing Apartments on Park Hill Drive in Gainesville.

Officers responded shortly before 11 p.m. to a call of a female shot in the upper torso, according to Gainesville police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook.

The shooting arose from a dispute “between individuals at the apartments,” according to a police Facebook post. One man fired a gun, hitting the victim, who was in an adjacent apartment and uninvolved in the dispute.

“The adult female victim was an innocent party to these individuals’ reckless conduct,” according to the police department.
The woman was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident moments after the shooting. His identity was unavailable.

Holbrook said the investigation is ongoing.
