New hours take effect Sunday at Hall County's compactor sites and landfill, part of an effort by county officials to reduce expenses.

Compactor sites will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, a reduction of four hours from the current schedule. Sites will be open 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, a decrease of one hour each day.

The Candler Road landfill will be open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, a reduction of two hours.

Also, the minimum fee charged at the landfill will rise to $12.50 from $5.

The Hall County Board of Commissioners approved the changes in early September.
