Hall County commissioners reject partial road closure

A request to close off part of a northwest Hall road for residents complaining of trash dumping and speeding was rejected Thursday night by the Hall County Board of Commissioners.

The request from HWW II, LLC asked Hall County to partially abandon the right-of-way on Shuler Road starting at its intersection with Pine Haven Drive for about 700 feet.

The request came from Tim Whitmire, who said there was unauthorized dumping on that section of the road, including a deer carcass in recent months.

The proposal would have blocked through-traffic on that gravel section of the road and forced the county to build a cul-de-sac.

Hall County staff recommended the commissioners deny request because that stretch of road is frequently used by Hall County school buses and emergency service vehicles. Some residents of the neighborhood also objected the proposal.

The vote to turn down the proposal was unanimous, though commissioners suggested more law enforcement patrols in the area may be in order.
