A hair salon that’s been doing business at Sherwood Plaza for 20 years received a special uses permit Tuesday from Gainesville City Council to move to 1665 Thompson Bridge Road NW.

Peggy Copeland, co-owner of Hair Artistry, told the council that the family business is working on its third generation. She said her mother started the tradition in 1976.

“Our clients want us to be at a place where they’re used to being around,” Copeland said. “Thompson Bridge seems like a perfect place in the city.”

City officials approved the request with conditions, including that the single-family appearance of the property be maintained, along with significant healthy trees at the property.

According to business owners at Sherwood Plaza, they were told in November they would eventually have to vacate the premises. It is unknown what is planned for the location.
