The city of Gainesville has a new public relations manager who will expand the city’s digital outreach.
Christina Santee, editor of The Northeast Georgian, will start her new position with Gainesville Nov. 4. She has been with the Cornelia newspaper since 2011 and became the editor in 2015.
“I’m thrilled to have been selected to fill the role of public relations manager for the city of Gainesville,” Santee said. “I love Gainesville and believe it has so much to offer residents and visitors alike. I look forward to communicating this information to followers and news outlets via enhanced online and social media efforts.”
TV18, the local government access channel, went off the air Dec. 31, and City Manager Bryan Lackey said the city hopes to increase its online presence to reach the public.
“As we ended TV18, we’re moving from the analog to the digital,” he said. “... Christina is going to lead us on that, which includes updating our website. We’ve needed that for some time, so for the next year, she’ll be charged with that and getting us to a more modern version so we can really get our content out there on the website to ensure we’re communicating as we need to with our citizens.”
Lackey said more than 50 people applied for the position.
