Fire Captain Jon Canada will serve as Gainesville’s interim fire chief, city officials announced today.

Canada, a Gainesville native, has served the Gainesville Fire Department for 14 years and is currently the department’s Interim Battalion Chief for Shift B.

City Manager Bryan Shuler announced the decision to make Canada the interim chief in a press release. He said Canada will head the department during its insurance (ISO) evaluations in December.

“I am confident in Captain Canada’s ability to lead us during this process,” Shuler said in the release.
