Flowery Branch has a new community development and planning director.

Rich Atkinson replaces John McHenry, who left in June for a similar position with the city of Tucker.

Atkinson, who starts work with Flowery Branch on Aug. 29, comes from Duluth, where he has worked for 11 years and is senior planner.

“Rich has a wealth of experience in shaping the growth of Duluth. Flowery Branch is continuing its effort to redevelop Old Town and provide quality growth across the community,” Flowery Branch City Manager Bill Andrew wrote in a press release. “Rich’s knowledge and experience will be welcome as we move forward.”
