Fire destroyed a mobile home Wednesday night where a family of eight was living.

Capt. Scott Cagle said the call came in about 9 p.m. for the 12-foot-by-60-foot structure in the 2000 block of Mountain View Road.

No one a was home at the time, and when firefighters arrived, flames were showing from the windows. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and searched the home. The fire was contained to a back bedroom, Cagle said, but heavy smoke damage makes the home now unlivable.

The family, two adults and six children, stayed with relatives overnight, but Red Cross will assist them today, Cagle said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
