A former Gainesville Elementary School teacher charged with molesting students in the classroom is considered a fugitive after violating conditions of his bond, authorities said Saturday.

Jerry Norman Jones, 51, was visiting his 4-year-old daughter Friday morning in Cumming when he left with the girl, in violation of bond conditions that prohibited unsupervised contact, Gainesville Police Lt. Brian Kelly said.

Hall County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kiley Sargent said officials have active warrants for Jones on charges of violating his bond. He had not been arrested and his whereabouts were unknown as of Saturday.

Jones, who has a Commerce address, was charged in December on four counts of child molestation. Police said he fondled or groped three 9-year-old girls and an 8-year-old girl in his third-grade classroom on Dec. 7 and Dec. 10. He resigned when confronted with allegations made by fellow teachers and was arrested shortly afterward.

A superior court judge set a bond for Jones sometime after his arrest. The Hall County courthouse was closed Saturday and it could not be determined what judge set the bond, the special conditions of the bond or the amount.

Officials with the Hall County District Attorney’s office notified sheriff’s officials of the bond violation, Sargent said. Prosecutors were unavailable for comment Saturday.

Jones’ last known attorney, Greg Valpey, was also unavailable for comment.
