One person has qualified so far this week for the vacant Post 3 Flowery Branch City Council seat.

Jason Covert of 7632 Triton Court filed his paperwork at City Hall Thursday in pursuit of the seat vacated by Kris Yardley, who resigned to run for the state House District 25 seat. Covert, 38, is regional sales manager/major accounts for Charter Business, a unit of Charter Communications.

The special election is set for March 6.

Qualifying began Wednesday and ends at noon today.

Candidates can submit paperwork at City Hall, 5517 Main St. The qualifying fee is $144, or the candidate must file a pauper's affidavit.

The winner will fill Yardley's unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 2013.

Tuesday's House race also features Republicans Bobby Banks, Emory Dunahoo Jr., Dominic Ottaviano, Todd Reed and Sonny Sykes, and Democrat Paul Wayne Godfrey.
