Former candidate Kimbo Senter has thrown his support behind Bobby Banks in the runoff to select the next South Hall representative on the Hall County Board of Commissioners.

Senter finished third place behind fellow Republicans Banks and Craig Lutz in the July 20 primary.

Banks, who is seeking his second term as the District 1 commissioner, will face Lutz, a former Flowery Branch city councilman, in a runoff Aug. 10.

"I appreciate his support and his supporters," Banks said of Senter's endorsement. "I look forward to working with Kimbo and his ideas."

Senter said he decided to vote for Banks because he agreed more with his plans for South Hall.

"I just feel like our platforms are more the same, and I didn't agree with where Craig stood on some stuff," Senter said. "Me and Bobby are more on track."

But he said while he will be supporting Banks, he just hopes his supporters will go out and vote for who they feel best represents them.

Lutz said he is not shocked Senter is supporting Banks.

"It's not really a surprise but it is a disappointment," Lutz said. "He had talked a lot about wanting to see change on the Hall County commission and I would have thought that I would represent that change, but evidently it wasn't what he was looking for."

Lutz said he doesn't think the endorsement will be detrimental to his campaign.

"A lot of (Senter supporters) were voting against the incumbent, and Kimbo was the alternative that they chose," Lutz said. "They're still anti-incumbent and we expect a lot of them to still vote for me."

In the primary election, Banks finished first with 44 percent of the vote. Lutz finished in second with 29 percent, just slightly ahead of Senter, who garnered 27 percent.

Banks said he and Senter were friendly throughout the race and he is excited to have his backing.

"I was appreciative of the way he conducted his campaign and the integrity with which he ran it," Banks said.

Senter said he will consider running for office again in the future.

"The support for me was so positive that if the right chance comes along again, I'll take it," Senter said.
