DOT engineer set to retire after 34 years of service

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s assistant area engineer for maintenance in Lumpkin, Towns, Union and White counties is set to retire March 1.

Terry Palmer began his employment with the state 34 years ago as an equipment operator in DOT’s maintenance division.

In his current job, he and his crews were responsible for the maintenance on state routes.

"Terry was an excellent employee," District Engineer Russell McMurry said. "He always worked diligently and was an asset to our department and to the people of Georgia.

"We will miss his friendship, dedication to safety and work ethic. We wish Terry a wonderful retirement."

Terry and his wife, Imogene, live in Cleveland.
