Expect “extreme delays” during the day through Thursday on Jesse Jewell Parkway/Ga. 369 in Gainesville as crews replace asphalt and resurface the roadway between Academy Street and John Morrow Parkway/Ga. 60.

Workers will be on site 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting, after beginning work Tuesday, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The DOT advises drivers to avoid the area if possible.

Crews will be working westbound from Academy Street, and the outside westbound lane will be closed. Once finished, they will turn around and patch the eastbound lanes.

The pavement surface in that area is damaged, requiring it to be replaced and resurfaced to provide a “much smoother roadway,” according to the DOT.
