Hall County Sherrif's Office investigators gather near a vehicle on a boat ramp Thursday afternoon at Gainesville Marina after a body was found in the water earlier.

Authorities said Friday they believe a 65-year-old man fell off a dock and drowned in Lake Lanier.

Richard Linton Beacham, of Cobb County, was found in the water around 10 a.m. Thursday near Gainesville Marina off of Dawsonville Highway. A boater found the body floating in the water at the marina.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Stephen Wilbanks said investigators “believe Mr. Beacham fell off the dock adjacent to his boat and drowned.”

Beacham’s body was transported to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine an exact cause of death.
