The Anna Ruby Falls Scenic Area, located in the Chattahoochee National Forest north of Helen, will be closed to the public beginning Monday as a renovation project gets under way.

The U.S. Forest Service plans to replace wooden observation decks at the base of the falls and behind the visitor center. Officials estimate the construction work will take about 45 days.

The five-mile Smith Creek Trail, which starts at the falls and runs to Unicoi State Park, also will be closed during the construction period.

A spectacular 153-foot double cascade, Anna Ruby Falls is the Chattahoochee National Forest’s most popular tourist attraction.
