James and Pamela Emerson of Moreland announce the engagement of their daughter Samantha Joy Emerson to Bryan Sheridan Brinson, son of George and Carolyn Brinson of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Guy Garner of Tallapoosa, the late Betina Garner and the late Ralph and Sarah Emerson.

She is a 2002 graduate of Northgate High School in Newnan. She graduated in 2006 from The University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She is pursing a master's degree at Brenau University in Gainesville. She is employed as an early intervention program teacher in Alpharetta.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Paul and Mickie Brinson of Gainesville and the late Bob and Peggy Cathey.

He is a 2001 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2005 from The University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in general business. He is employed as a managing partner with Meridian Management in Atlanta.

The couple plan to wed Dec. 11, 2010, in Decatur.
