Show off your Latin moves Friday at the Quinlan

For those wanting to cut the rug with some Latin dances, Friday night's Latin Gala might be your outlet.

The Quinlan Visual Arts Center and the Gainesville Multicultural Committee plan to hold the Latin Gala from 8 p.m. to midnight at the center at 514 Green St. in Gainesville.

The event also will feature music and food, with proceeds going toward Quinlan Art Camp scholarships for disadvantaged youth.

Tickets cost $50 per person and included dance lessons featuring the salsa, merengue and bolero.

Don't worry, though, if you weren't able to attend one of the lessons.

"I think most people get very festive and they have a very good time," said Amanda Kroll, assistant director of the arts center. "You can learn on the spot, and the dance teachers will be there, too."

Atlanta band Rumba Habana will provide the music and Luna's restaurant in Gainesville will supply the tapas, or Spanish appetizers.

The art camps, broken down into two-week sessions for children ages 5 to 14, are held throughout the summer, Kroll said.
