Womens quintet has brassy sound

Trumpeters Mary Elizabeth Bowden and Amy McCabe, hornist Katy Ambrose, trombonist Alexis Smith and tubist Beth McDonald are members of the Seraph Brass quintet. They will perform Feb. 28, at Piedmont College in Demorest.

A quintet of America’s top female brass players, Seraph Brass, will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the chapel at Piedmont College at 992 Central Ave. in Demorest.

The quintet includes Mary Elizabeth Bowden, trumpet; Amy McCabe, trumpet; Katy Ambrose, horn; Alexis Smith, trombone; and Beth McDonald, tuba.

Committed to engaging audiences with captivating programming, Seraph Brass performs a diverse repertoire including original transcriptions, newly commissioned works and well-known classics. For the Piedmont concert, Seraph Brass  will perform works by Edvard Grieg, W.A. Mozart, Isaac Albéniz, Giacomo Puccini, Claude Debussy and Franz Liszt.

Members of Seraph Brass recently performed on tour with Adele and have performed with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Luzern Music Festival in Switzerland, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia. Individually, they hold positions in the Richmond Symphony, the Louisville Orchestra, Sarasota Opera Orchestra, the Artosphere Orchestra, New Chicago Brass, Tennessee Tech University and the University of Virginia.

Concert admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Piedmont College students, faculty, and staff are admitted free.
