A networking event for North Georgia’s women of achievement and local businesses will make its debut Saturday, Aug. 29.

The inaugural North Georgia Women’s Expo is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brenau Downtown Center in Gainesville.

Sponsored by The Times, the event is intended to connect women, the most powerful consumer group, with businesses, services and agencies.

“Women are linked to 85 percent of all consumer purchases, from autos to health care,” Times Publisher Charlotte Atkins said. “Our mission is to create an engaging showcase and forum that features exhibitors with products, services and opportunities for women.”

The Times is partnering with the nonprofit WomenSource to spotlight its mission and the resources it offers to women in the area.

“WomenSource stands ready to help make sure women here have the skills, information and support to succeed in life, whether that’s personally or professionally. It’s an amazing network of women and we’re thrilled to have them as a partner,” Atkins said.

Atkins and Valerie Simmons-Walston of WomenSource and Brenau University will serve as emcees for the event. WomenSource will provide snapshot segments of the programs it offers throughout the year, along with Brenau and other sponsors. Prize drawings will include groceries, oil changes, gift cards and two Michael Kors handbags.

The Times will also debut a new magazine, Moxie, celebrating numerous women of achievement in North Georgia. It will include “behind-the-scene” personal profiles of area female leaders plus lifestyle features on cooking, fitness and more.

“We have such a wealth and diversity of women in this part of Georgia,” Atkins said. “We want to showcase them and their individual and collective spirits. We have so much to learn from one another and about one another.

“Moxie means energy, courage and know-how,” she continued. “I think that captures the gals of North Georgia nicely, don’t you? It’s our hope that both the Women’s Expo and Moxie will become a new touchstone for celebration, communication and connection among women here.”

Tickets are $5. They are on sale at The Times’ office at 345 Green St., Gainesville, online at northgeorgiawomensexpo.com and at the door. Vendor spaces are available, with information and rates found on the event website.

The Women’s Expo is co-sponsored by Brenau University, Farmers Insurance, Belk, WDUN and Jacobs Media, Pinnacle Custom Signs, The Longstreet Clinic, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Academy Sports, Pilgrim’s Pride and the Gainesville Theatre Alliance.
