The Elachee Nature Center has organized a competition that includes hiking, biking and navigation — oh my.

On April 2, the center will host the second annual Chicopee Woods Trillium Trek Eco-Challenge.

The challenge will take participants along a 13-mile course through the Chicopee Woods.

Although the trek is designed to push challengers to their limits, organizers have arranged a special opportunity to help folks get a leg up on the competition.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, the center will host a free, pre-race clinic. During the clinic, participants will have the chance to brush up on their navigation skills and to also preview trails where the race will take place within the 1,500 acre nature preserve.

Both the clinic and the race will be held at the center, 2125 Elachee Drive, Gainesville.

If competitors register for the race before Monday, the fee is $40 per person and $30 for 8- to 18-year-olds. The fee increases by $10 after March 21.

Participants are invited to take part in the challenge as solo racers, or as members of 3- or 4-person, co-ed teams. They will be competing for a number of prizes including gift certificates, golf at Château Élan, a GPS system and recreational gear.

Proceeds from the April race will be used to support the center’s education and conservation mission.
