If you've been missing the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra concerts and programs, here's your opportunity to help bring them back.

The group announced in the fall that operations were being suspended due to financial issues. Saturday, the GSO board of directors will host a fundraising thrift sale at Bodyplex, 1435 Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.

"We have been busy rebuilding the board and doing fundraising so we can hold our Patriotic Pops Concert in the summer and begin rehearsals with the youth in the fall," said Vanessa Hyatt, GSO board secretary.

The sale will be held in the fitness center.

"We'll be inside, so the sale will happen rain or shine," Hyatt said.

"As for the items, we have everything: Furniture, small appliances, clothing, baby things, basic household stuff and lots of holiday stuff. There are lots of Christmas and Easter items. Lots of bunnies and baskets.

"It really is an extensive sale because it is a collective effort of board and league members."

The group will also be hosting a bake sale. All proceeds will benefit the GSO and its youth orchestra, Hyatt says.

If all goes according to plan, the GSO will host string and youth orchestra auditions in May.
