A magical night is in store for Gainesville residents with the added bonus of benefitting an area charity.

Randy and Friends Inc. will host its second annual banquet and auction with the highlight being a performance by comedian and magician Chipper Lowell.

Lowell is an award-winning visual and variety comedian who has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Disney Channel,” “General Hospital,” “Empty Nest,” “Show Me The Funny,” “America’s Funniest People,” “Shades of L.A.” and “The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.” His film credits include “Larger Than Life,” “Time Changer” and “My Life.”

As a boy, Lowell was born and raised on traveling circuses and large scale arena shows with his show business parents. His father was a professional clown with Ringling Bros. and his mother performed as an aerialist working high above the crowds.

By age 17, Lowell was creating his own shows and parodying many variety arts while creating some magic routines of his own. His improv training came from the critically acclaimed Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles — the popular improvisational venue with alumni such as Will Ferrell, Kristin Wiig, Pee Wee Herman and many “Saturday Night Live” and “MadTV” veterans. This led to working the comedy club circuit full-time for the next seven years, headlining all throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Lowell has received some awards and accolades along the way, such as “Comedy Magician of the Year!” (twice) and “Specialty Act of the Year!” He earned two nominations for “Stage Magician of the Year” and was listed among the “Top Funniest Magicians Performing Today” by MAGIC Magazine.

Lowell performs at several charity and fundraising events each year such as the Randy and Friends banquet. The fundraising events benefits the local faith-based, nonprofit organization that helps people with disabilities have a meaningful future.

The event will be from 6-8:30 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the banquet hall at First Baptist Church, at 751 Green St. NW, in Gainesville.

Tickets are $50 per person or $350 for a table of eight. Dinner is included.
