Lake Lanier Islands plans to honor and remember Georgia’s fallen soldiers who died while serving their country in the Global War on Terror with its upcoming 5-kilometer run.

The Fallen Heroes of Georgia 5K will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at 7000 Lanier Islands Parkway in Buford. The chip-timed race is a Peachtree Road Race Qualifier.

Signs individually representing the 216 fallen soldiers will line the race course to emphasize how many men and women have given their last full measure for the United States.

Winners receiving awards include: first, second and third place for male and female runners; overall male and female masters 40 and older and male and female grand masters 50 and older; and the top three men and woman in age group categories.

Race proceeds will benefit charities created in honor of a fallen Georgia soldier. Charities include: Run for the Fallen Inc., a nonprofit that raises funds to support charities created in memory of a Fallen Georgia Soldier; as well as Evan Marshall Memorial Scholarship Fund, Matthew Freeman Project, Noah Harris Fund, Ashley Henderson Huff Memorial Scholarship for Courage and Patriotism and the Whitlock Foundation.

Entry fees are $33 to March 8 and $38 on race day. T-shirt will be given to registrants while supplies last.
