Tales from the Dark Ages will come to light Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Northeast Georgia History Center.

The center’s Family Day will focus on medieval times and look at how the church, nobles and peasants created one of the most unique periods in human history. The center staff will demonstrate 11th to 16th century arms and armor. The time period will cover from the Battle of Hastings in 1066 to the De Soto expedition through Georgia in 1540.

The History Center will have a digital exhibit of the Bayeux Tapestry, hands-on activities and living history interpretations. Visitors may create an illuminated manuscript, see how injuries and diseases were treated with medieval medicine and see and smell authentic medieval cooking.

The event will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at 322 Academy St. in Gainesville. Admission is free.
