Moving off the couch and into a run through fitness program

Residents wanting to take of the challege of getting fit with other of the same fitness or nonfitness level may join the Couch to 5K Challenge.

In the fitness and wellness program, a group of individuals will train for the Beat the Heat 5: on June 27. The program is designed to encourage, motivate and challenge individuals to compete with their peers. No running experience is required.

Sponsored by the Gainesville Parks & Recreation, registration fees are $60 for city residents and $80 for non-city residents. The fee includes a T-shirt and a $10 discount on the Beat the Heat 5K registration.

Individuals may train from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Mondays, Wedesdays and Fridays from May 4 to June 27 or 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. Saturdays from May 5 to June 27.
