Jump start year with race or plunge
Polar Bear Plunge at Lake Lanier Olympic Center on Jan. 1

The Edmondson-Telford Center for Children is giving locals the chance to start on their New Year’s resolutions immediately as it hosts the Embrace 2014 5K race, benefitting victims of child abuse. After the race, runners can cool off with a jump in the frigid waters of Lake Lanier at 17th annual Polar Bear Plunge at the Lake Lanier Olympic Center on Clarks Bridge Road. The race begins at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 1 at Candler Fields in Gainesville for a cost of $30.
