The North Georgia College & State University Jazz Band is preparing for Monday's performance of current and classic jazz.
The performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday at the Holly Theater in Dahlonega.
"The show will be a big band concert with the jazz band. They'll be playing both current sounds as well as classic '40s jazz," said NGCSU Performing Arts Department head Andy David.
"They'll be playing some things like ‘Sing, Sing, Sing' and "One O'clock Jump.' It's sort of the soundtrack for World War II," he said.
The band will perform classics from the Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman libraries of the 1940s, alongside new compositions and arrangements from Chick Corea, Pat Metheny and Mongo Santamaria.
The university's jazz combos also will perform. While the jazz band comprises 20 members, the combos are two groups consisting of four players each, according to David.
"It's a great bunch of young people who love jazz and play it well," David said.
"We're all looking forward to getting off campus to play, and having more than just the college community in attendance. We would like to see people from the North Georgia community come out and enjoy a wonderful jazz show," David said.
Tickets for the concert are $12 for adults, $6 for kids and free for NGSCU students, faculty and staff. They can be purchased by visiting the Holly Theater online, by calling the Theater's box office at 706-864-3759 or at the door.
