Jitterbugs take note: The Voices of North Georgia are ready to help you swing the night away with their second annual fundraising event.
"Romantic Cabaret" will feature love songs from the 1940s with help from the Sentimental Journey Jazz and Swing Band.
Sentimental Journey is an 18-piece orchestra that is part of the Believer's Band of Gainesville's First United Methodist Church.
The group got its start in Big Band music after a rehearsal of an arrangement of Glenn Miller's "Little Brown Jug" and have been jazzing up the community ever since.
"Romantic Cabaret's theme is ‘Starlight Ballroom,'" said Jean McCorlew, hospitality and membership chairperson for Voices. "It's a 40s night-club theme, and we are going to be singing songs like ‘Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree' and ‘Night and Day.'"
McCorlew said Voices must raise money to cover expenses through performances like this event. "We are nonprofit and we have to raise all of our funds ourselves. It's actually to help us get ready for our next production at the end of April of ‘Carmina Burana,' by Carl Orff."
The Cabaret will be a swanky affair.
"It's more like you're going to a cocktail party. Definitely not casual," she said.
The ticket price includes a selection of nonalcoholic beverages and desserts, and must be purchased in advance. McCorlew said the event is considered a family event and will not have a cash bar.
Sentimental Journey will be playing dance favorites, so dust off your moves and be prepared to Lindy Hop your way through the night.
"Bring your sweetie because the evening promises to warm your hearts with romantic music, dessert and dancing," McCorlew said.
