The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is pulling out of the stops — and it is a literal pull.

Sgt. Greg Cochran will take part in a truck pull Saturday, May 14, during the sheriff’s office ADVANCE Summer Youth Camp registration at Academy Sports off Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville.  Cochran will putt a Toyota Tundra full of children from Milton Martin Toyota.

His pull will raise money for the ADVANCE camp, which is for children ages 9 to 12 years old and runs from June 13-17 at Free Chapel in Gainesville. Approximately 260 students will be registered on a first-come first-serve basis Saturday.

The registration event and camp are free, said Hall County Deputy Chad Mann.

During the camp, deputies who work directly with the school systems and specifically fifth-graders emphasize the development of social competence, conflict resolution and positive alternatives to drugs, violence, cyber-bullying and gangs. Informational lessons on personal safety, stranger-danger, internet safety and water safety will be taught in addition to health and fitness courses.

At the registration event, a touch-a-truck display will showcase the Hall County Sheriff’s SWAT truck as well as the DIVE team vehicle and boat. Pizza and light refreshments will be available.

For adults, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office will host a job fair, too. Vacant positions include jailors, deputies and an accounting secretary. Lt. Donald McDuffie will be on location to discuss a career in law enforcement.
