Each year, visitors to the Empty Bowl luncheon in Gainesville browse hundreds of colorfully painted bowls, reminders of those who don’t have food to put in their bowls or on their plates.
This Saturday, you can paint one of those bowls and support the mission of the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, which collects food to distribute to nonprofit partner agencies in North Georgia.
The nonprofit is hosting Family Day for the first time to raise awareness about the resources available from the food bank.
“Summer is one of our busiest seasons. Many families struggle to put additional meals on the table while children are out of school,” Kay Blackstock, executive director at the food bank, said in a news release. “This event is a great way to educate people on how they can help support the food bank’s mission to end local hunger, while also enjoying some summer fun in the process.”
The event will include hamburgers, hot dogs, face painting, giveaways and tours of the food bank. Rae Abshire, author of children’s book “Andi’s Perfect Toy,” will be signing books.
