Steve Penley, one of America’s most celebrated artists emerging from the South, will be the featured guest at the 2015 Quinlan Visual Arts Center Fine Art Auction Gala.

Penley is best known for his iconic portraits and signature painting techniques incorporating a unique style of bold color, strong brush strokes and vivid imagery. The Georgia artist studied at the University of Georgia in Athens and later at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

With multiple awards and work displayed in collections worldwide, an exhibition of his work “True Color: Meditations on the American Spirit, An Artist’s Response to 9/11” toured the globe, with destinations including New York, Istanbul, Cairo, London and Atlanta. He was the official artist for the G-8 Summit, solo exhibitor at the World of Coca-Cola and has numerous books featuring his art, icons and Americana.

Now, one of his original pieces will be up for auction during the March 7 event at Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville.

The 37th annual Gala Art Auction will feature the original artwork by local, regional and national talents. The gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, but tickets are sold out.

Proceeds from the auction fund Quinlan programming, including classes, exhibitions and community outreach.
