Mary Jones, right, created “Team Maggie” to help pay for her daughter’s fertility treatments before Maggie Davis, left, underwent chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. After her cancer went into remission, Davis’ daughter Layleigh was born. Jones then transformed the organization into the nonprofit Team Maggie to help other women preserve their eggs.

Get warm and fuzzy, scaly and wet all at the same time.

If you love to fish, join Team Maggie for the second annual “Fishing for Fertility” Striper Tournament on Saturday, March 11, on Lake Lanier.

All proceeds will fund grants for young adults hoping to “keep their dream of family alive” through fertility preservation before beginning cancer treatment.

“Fishing for Fertility” is an open team tournament with a cash prize pot determined by the number of boats participating and additional prize packs, raffles and trophies for first, second and third place. A cookout will follow the tournament.

Participants may launch from other locations beginning at 6:45 a.m., but weigh-in is at 2 p.m. at Little Hall Park off Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville.

Nearly 40 boats signed up for last year’s tournament, which is conservation minded with a catch, photo release format.

Registration is $100 per boat and includes two dozen herring to be picked up from Sherry’s Bait & Barbecue on the day of the tournament for the first 40 boats. Participants receive a T-shirt and two raffle tickets for various prizes. Additional tickets will be available for purchase at the event.

Little Hall Park has a $5 parking fee, but if you have a $40 annual park pass, you’ll be covered.
