There will be plenty for everyone to do Aug. 27 at the Family Fun Fest in Clarkesville.

The event is part of the Habersham County United Way's fundraising effort, executive director Bonnie Loffredo said.

"Family Fun Fest is going to provide live entertainment all day. You can literally be doing something from beginning to end," Loffredo said.

This year's activities will include demonstrations by a high angle rescue team. Members of Habersham County fire and rescue departments will be on hand to talk about their equipment and even give a live demonstration with the Jaws of Life extraction of accident victims.

Members of the Habersham County Sheriff's Department will be out for demonstrations and K-9 displays.

Everything from carnival rides, arts and crafts, a zip line and fireworks display will be set up for the crowd to enjoy, according to Loffredo.

A silent auction will be held for a weekend at a Helen cabin and a set of boxing gloves signed by Muhammad Ali.

Loffredo said a crew of more than 400 volunteers was involved with planning the fest since March.

"The number of people coming out grows every year. Last year, we had between 5,000 and 6,000 people attending Fun Fest, and we are expecting more this year. It wouldn't be possible without the help of volunteers," Loffredo said.

"It's a great event for everyone. The whole family can have fun, and you don't have to worry about spending too much. On top of that, it benefits the people of Habersham County and many of the surrounding areas.

Family Fun Fest is set for 4-10 p.m. Saturday. Shuttle service will run from the downtown parking areas to the event site at the Habersham County Recreation Department.
