An infusion of runners will diverge onto the Longstreet Hills neighborhood for a racing event Sunday, May 17.

The Outrun Cancer 5K and Fun Run will be at 4 p.m. May 17 at 528 Prior St. in Gainesville. Registration costs $30 for the 5K and $15 for the 1-mile fun run.

Registration will be at 3 p.m. The fun run will start at 3:45 p.m. and the 5K begins 15 minutes later.

All proceeds will benefit the Josie and Marcus Rock family in their battle against childhood retinoblastoma. Their 1-year-old son, Asher, was diagnosed in the fall when he was 4 months old. He is undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and laser treatment. Josie Brewer Rock is a longtime Gainesville woman.

Both races will trek through the rolling Longstreet Hills neighborhood of North Georgia and the historic Brenau University area. The 5K race will start and finish at the Martha Hope Cabin. About 200 have registered for the event.

After the race, bounce houses, Kona Ice Truck, photo booth, music and other activities are geared for family-style fun.
