Classic cars, trucks, bikes and tunes are expected to fill the downtown Clarkesville square from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 21, as Clarkesville Main Street kicks off Friday Night Live: A Third Friday community event.

Friday Night Live is on the third Friday of each month April through  August. Each month will have a theme.

This month’s theme is “Cruise-In & Music on Main” and organizers say the event was planned to be a “flashback” of sorts.

“We wanted to kick off the spring season with something that would appeal to all ages,” Clarkesville Main Street Director Mary Beth Horton said. “What better way to do that than classic cars and live bands playing music from all decades in locations throughout the square.”

The event, which begins at 6 p.m., features a variety of musicians playing from several different venues throughout downtown, including the gazebo lawn.

In addition, numerous stores are extending their hours for the evening.

The Cruise-In will take place in the upper parking lot of the old courthouse, adjacent to the gazebo. All makes and models will be on display. Prizes will be awarded. There is no fee to enter, and registration begins at 5 p.m. Final judging will take place at 8 p.m., when the event concludes.

“This is all about local,” said Joey Duncan, local business owner and Main Street Board Chairman. “Local music, local business, local food, and the added bonus is the Cruise-In, which just helps to attract more people to our vibrant town.”

The lineup of activities include:

  • 5 p.m. Jimmy Scott at The Attic Restaurant
  • 6 p.m. Mat and Ben Fried: Classic Rock at the Gazebo
  • 6 p.m. Brian Buffington at Greene Plaza
  • 6 p.m. Drunk on the Wind at The Copper Pot
  • 8 p.m. Karaoke at Grant Street Music Room

Horton said the end goal is for Friday Night Live to be something community members recognize and look forward to.
