Named a Top 20 Event for the three consecutive years, the 52nd annual Mountain Laurel Festival returns to downtown Clarkesville once again this weekend.

The festival celebrates Clarkesville’s heritage and extends its long tradition of hospitality.

“Clarkesville is quickly becoming the place to be for quality entertainment choices in Georgia and this year’s Mountain Laurel Festival will not disappoint,” Clarkesville City Manager Barbara Kesler said. “There will be fun activities for all ages to enjoy throughout the day and into the evening so come and join us on May 17.”

Festivities begin Saturday with the Clarkesville Kiwanis pancake breakfast and the Clarkesville Lions Club parade. Fine art and craft vendors will pepper the square and surrounding area. And an outdoor food court will satisfy visitors’ hunger and thirst.

An expanded children’s area will supply the young ones with activities such as live shows and demonstrations.

Adults will be entertained with traditional Appalachian lifestyle demonstrations along with music, wood-turning, spinning and other needle arts on the grounds of the Historic Mauldin House. The Millinery Shop and Big Holly Cabin will be open for guided tours.

The Jagged Stones, a Rolling Stones cover band, will perform at 8:30 p.m.

A fireworks show will cap off the event Saturday.
