While summer activites abound throughout Northeast Georgia, community theater groups are providing an alternative indoor entertainment.

The Red Phoenix Theatre is producing its summer production of “James and the Giant Peach Jr.” at the Buford Community Theatre.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. June 30, 3 p.m. July 2, and 6 p.m. July 3 at 2200 Buford Highway in Buford.

Tickets are $18-$25 and can be purchased at www.redphoenix.org. Seating is reserved and limited.

The Red Phoenix Theatre production is based on one of Roald Dahls’ most poignantly quirky stories, but with a brand new take on the “masterpeach” tale. Featuring a tuneful score and book, the adventurous musical focuses on courage and self-discovery.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.
