Blackshear Place Library staff couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the facility’s birthday than with the patrons that have been checking them out for the last 20 years.

The library’s weeklong celebration will wrap-up with a number of birthday-themed activities this weekend.

Today, the facility will host a special morning movietime for kids, as well as afternoon storytelling sessions.

On Friday, at 10:30 a.m., Blackshear Place will host its official birthday party. If you feel a bit off showing up to the party empty-handed, no need to worry because the staff has compiled a birthday wish list of books they’d like to add to the library’s collections.

The wish list is available online, under general youth programs on the Hall County Library System’s website, www.hall.public.lib.ga.us.

The festivities will conclude at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday with a tea party and book-signing with Haywood Smith.

Smith is a New York Times bestselling author and member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church in Oakwood. Smith has written several novels including "Ladies of the Lake," "The Red Hat Club" and "The Queen Bee of Mimosa Branch."

The celebratory activities are free and open to the public.
