Beat back the expanding waistline in children with family fun day

While childhood obesity is on the rise, one local agency is planning for fun in the sun along with exercise for Hall County kids.

The Oakwood YMCA is hosting a Healthy Kids Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at 4101 Railroad St. in Oakwood. Events, except for the races, and other activities will be free. Food will be available for a minimal cost.

The 5-kilometer race, a fun run and toddler trot will kick off the events at 8:30 a.m. The toddler trot is free while the fun run costs $5. The 5K race is $25. Participants may register online at ???

Other activities include bounce houses, rock wall, spider jumps and other fun physical activities. Giveaways and drawings will occur and free childrens safety ID kits will be availabe in limited supply.

Adults may watch demonstrations of group fitness classes and other events.
