The City of Cornelia is getting an early start on its celebrations for Black History Month, which is recognized nationally in February. Beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, the city will open the doors for the fifth annual Regional African-American History Exhibit at the old Cornelia Bank building. The old bank is located at the corner of Hodges and Main streets in Cornelia. Organizers say the goal of the exhibit is to "honor the accomplishments and achievements of African-Americans living in five surrounding counties of Northeast Georgia." The exhibit’s theme is "Black Women in American History and Culture-Family First." The free exhibit will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays through March 15.
