Wouldn’t it be fun to relive your prom night again?
Business leaders in Gainesville asked this question, then asked, “Why not?”
Downtown Drafts and Kim & Bagwell LLC attorneys at law have partnered with Main Street Gainesville to make the first Gainesville Adult Prom a reality.
From 6-11 p.m. July 16, a large, decorated tent will be set up on the downtown square at 301 Main St., complete with a dance floor and a DJ for a night of fun and dancing.
Tickets can be purchased online at GainesvilleAdultProm.com. An earlybird special run until July 11, where single tickets will be available for purchase for $25 with couples tickets available for $35.
After this date, single tickets go up to $35 and $45 for couples. All tickets are $35 at the door the evening of the event.
“With your tickets, you’ll get an awesome time, as well as a professional prom photo, Gainesville Adult Prom souvenir, and several of our local merchants are offering discounts,” Main Street Manager Regina Mansfield said.
Discounts include JR Crider’s, Tortuga Massage and Occasions Florist, which will offer a 20 percent discount on flowers, including corsages, with proof of prom ticket purchase on orders placed before Saturday.
Attendees are encouraged to go all out, with fancy dresses, tuxedos and even limousines for an unforgettable date night, or fun evening out with friends.
Mansfield has heard of many people looking for places to rent fashions from their younger days, such as blue tuxedos or dresses with puffy sleeves, popular in the ’80s.
Among the event coordinators, “the joke has been, (you have) a better date, now you get to redo prom.” Mansfield said. “We’ve been telling everyone to get their ‘promposals’ on!”
Promposals refer to asking someone to prom in a cute and creative way, making a date feel special even before the big night.
This kind of fun “prom redo” includes the whole prom experience, getting dressed up and going to dinner then arriving at the venue for an exciting night.
Through the Gainesville Adult Prom Facebook page, song requests and dedications can be submitted to the DJ.
Music will include songs were heard at attendees’ first prom experience, plus newer pop songs.
A difference with Adult Prom, however, is Downtown Drafts will be open for the purchase of alcoholic beverages, along with root beer.
“We really thought this would be a special night to get all dressed up and have fun dancing.” Mansfield said. “We hope this will be the first of many to come.”
