Of the many noted burials in Gainesville’s Alta Vista Cemetery, none perhaps was as big as those for two of the city’s most prominent citizens. Confederate Gen. James Longstreet was buried there in January 1904. Former Georgia Gov. A.D. Candler was buried in October 1910.
