The Jefferson and Jackson County 13-year-old baseball teams saw their seasons come to an end this week, as both were eliminated from this year’s Dizzy Dean World Series, hosted by the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department

Both local teams fell in the first round of the 16-team double elimination tournament, with Pinellas Park, Fla. defeating Jefferson, and Jackson County losing to Dayton, Tenn., on Friday. The opening round loss sent both teams to the loser’s bracket where they would face-off against each other in the second round.

Jefferson, which finished second in the Dizzy Dean Georgia state tournament behind Cartersville, defeated Jackson County 11-0 Saturday, eliminating them from the tournament and staying alive to play another day.

The Dragons would go on to win their next two games, defeating West Cobb 10-4 Sunday and Pontotoc, Miss. 6-5 Monday.

With the win, the Dragons faced off against JPRD East (La.) Monday afternoon. Their run and hope of making a run at the championship ended as JPRD defeated the Dragons 14-4.
