You don’t have to play tennis with a slick handle. With high temperatures and high humidity, sweat becomes a big problem.
The worst thing that can happen is that you lose your racket and it bounces on the court and cracks.
Ouch!
Here are a dozen proven ways to get a grip on the situation:
- Replace your old, worn-out grip with a new one
- Increase the size of the handle
- Wash your hands before you play (sunscreen, lotion, etc. will ruin your grip).
- Carry a small towel and blot your playing hand frequently
- Use a large towel at change-overs to dry everything (including your hands, handle, arm, etc.)
- Use sawdust (keep some in your pocket)
- Use rosin (keep a bag in your pocket like a gymnast).
- Use fresh over wrap on your handle. (I’ve seen players use multiple applications during a match).
- Take your playing hand off the racket between points.
- Change rackets at change-over (handles will dry in the sun while you’re playing.)
- Wear wristbands on your forearm to prevent sweat from rolling down to your playing hand
- Blow on your palm between points to evaporate the sweat
